Lemon Watermelon Tea for Hot Summer Days

Watermelon tea is my new summer obsession! It’s light, naturally sweet, and incredibly refreshing. This drink is perfect for those hot days when I crave something hydrating but more exciting than plain water.

Watermelon Tea Recipe

Watermelon tea is a light, hydrating beverage popular on hot days. It combines the natural sweetness of watermelon with tea, lemon, and sometimes herbs like mint or basil for extra freshness.

Iced lemon watermelon tea

Unlike traditional teas, it relies on watermelon’s juicy flavor as the star ingredient, creating a light, hydrating drink perfect for hot weather. The drink has a sweet and fruity watermelon flavor with subtle earthy or floral notes from tea. It is low-calorie and vitamin-rich with vitamins A, C, and lycopene (an antioxidant).

You can serve this drink with fresh salads like arugula, feta, or cucumber. It goes well with seafood dishes such as grilled shrimp, salmon, or sushi. Light cheeses like goat cheese or brie are great choices too.

For heartier options, try BBQ meats like chicken or ribs, or enjoy it with fruity desserts such as sorbets and fruit tarts. Light pastries like croissants or macarons make an elegant match.

I’ll make this tea with a hint of lemon. Here’s how to make the lemon watermelon tea:

Variations

Watermelon tea comes in several popular versions. Each offers a unique taste and flavor:

  1. Sparkling Watermelon Green Tea
    • Swap the hot water for chilled sparkling water (after steeping the tea and cooling it).
    • Serve over ice for a fizzy summer mocktail.
  2. Watermelon Iced Matcha Latte
    • Replace the green tea bags with 1 tsp matcha powder whisked into warm water.
    • Blend with watermelon juice and pour over ice with milk for a vibrant latte.
  3. Watermelon Hibiscus Cooler substitutes green tea with hibiscus tea for a tart, floral twist and a gorgeous red color.
  4. Coconut Watermelon Tea uses coconut water instead of regular water for steeping the tea. It adds subtle sweetness and electrolytes.
  5. Watermelon Chai Refresher uses a chai tea bag and cinnamon for a spiced version. Best served iced, with or without milk.
  6. Creamy Thai-Style Version uses Thai tea mix and sweetened condensed milk to create a rich, dessert-style drink with watermelon flavor layered in.
