3 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and chopped 1/2 cup brown sugar adjust to taste 1/4 cup granulated sugar optional 1 tbsp ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground cloves 1/4 tsp salt 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp vanilla extract optional
Slow Cooker Method (Recommended for ease) Add all ingredients to your slow cooker. Stir to coat apples evenly.
Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or until apples are soft and deep brown.
Use an immersion blender (or transfer to a blender) and puree until smooth.
Leave the lid ajar and cook for another 30–60 minutes if you want it thicker.
Let cool, then store in jars in the refrigerator (up to 2 weeks) or freezer (up to 6 months).
Stovetop Method Combine all ingredients in a heavy pot over medium heat.
Cover and cook, stirring often, until apples are soft (about 45 minutes).
Puree until smooth, return to pot, and simmer uncovered for another 30–45 minutes, stirring frequently, until thickened.
Use a mix of sweet and tart apples (e.g., Fuji + Granny Smith) for balanced flavor.
No need for pectin. The natural sugars and long cooking create a perfect spreadable texture.
This recipe is naturally gluten-free and vegan.
