- 6 medium apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled and sliced
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour You can use gluten-free all-purpose flour blend
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar for topping
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup milk
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (Optional)
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
In a bowl, toss sliced apples with cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and 1/3 cup sugar. Spread evenly in the dish.
In a separate bowl, mix flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined.
Pour the batter evenly over the apples (don’t mix).
Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until golden and bubbling.
Let cool slightly and serve warm with a scoop of ice cream.
