A drink or beverage is any liquid consumed to satisfy thirst and plays essential roles in culture. There are 2 main types of beverages: non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.
- A non-alcoholic drink contains little or no alcohol. This includes low-alcohol beer, non-alcoholic wine, and certain apple ciders, depending on local laws. Soft drinks, which are alcohol-free, include options like soda, juices, sparkling water, water, milk, tea, milkshakes, hot chocolate, and smoothies, etc.
- Alcoholic drinks, or beverages containing ethanol, fall into three main categories: beers, wines, and spirits. Their alcohol content ranges from 3% to 50% ABV (alcohol by volume).
- Beers: The most popular globally, with standard beers having 4% to 6% ABV. Light beers range from 2% to 4%, and malt liquors from 6% to 8%.
- Wines: Made from fermented fruit juices, primarily grapes. Regular wines have 8% to 14% ABV, while fortified wines can reach 18% to 21%.
- Spirits: Distilled beverages with higher alcohol content, usually 35% to 50% ABV. Common types include vodka, gin, rum, whiskey, and tequila.
